Hoanib Valley

The Covid Chronicles production team joined Desert Lion Conservation Trust again in the Hoanib area to document the ongoing monitoring of the lion population and fitting of Early warning radio collars.

Wildlife numbers

The numbers of wildlife are slowly returning to the ephemeral rivers in the Northern Namib. Concentrations of springboks, gemsboks and ostriches were observed at several location along the drainages lines and lions are also returning to their usual hunting grounds.

Lions searching for food

Most of the lions in the Desert population are struggling to find sufficient prey. Many individuals are moving far beyond their normal home ranges in search for food.
