Action in the Hoaruseb river

During the past fortnight the two Orphan lionesses approached Leyland’s Drift on two occasions in search of prey. Many of the gemsbok that frequented the lower Hoaruseb river have become weary of the lions and some have vacated the area. Lion Ranger Training

During the week of 15 Feb 2021 a training seminar for Lion Rangers was held at Wereldsend. The Rapid-response Team, with assistance from John Heidinger, and IRDNC facilitated the event by gathering approximately 50 Lion Rangers from 9 communal conservancies in Northwest Namibia. During the night of 23 January 2021 the lionesses moved upriver and finding no prey animals along the riverbed, they reached Leyland’s drift at 04h00 on 24 January 2021. The Lion Rapid-response Team and Purros community rangers were ready to deter them from moving beyond Leyland’s Drift towards Purros, as was agreed on 17 January 2021 (see above).
